Five Vintage Fashion Fairs You Need to Explore
by Josie Sampson
Do you love the idea of vintage fashion but have no clue where to start? Or perhaps you’re feeling a little left out by an absence of retro clothing shops in your hometown? Whether you’re after a quiet afternoon’s browse or some serious shopping time, vintage fairs are an excellent way to dip your toe into the fashion water. Here’s a selection of the best fairs coming up over the next few weeks – just in time for those Christmas presents!
London: Judy’s Affordable Vintage Fair - Vintage by the kilo
Get ready for your retro fashion dreams to come true: Judy’s Affordable Vintage Fair sells clothing by the kilo! Simply pay £15 and (carefully) stuff in as much as you can - be strategic and stock up on a whole bundle of lightweight tops and summer dresses, or nab yourself a bargainous winter coat. With three kilos of vintage clothing, shoes and accessories on offer, the only problem you’ll face is deciding how many kilos to buy.
The Vintage Kilo Sale Weekender: 10th & 11th November at Hackney Downs Studios, Amhurst Terrace, London, E8 2BT
Exeter: Crikey it’s Vintage – The Christmas special
If the cold weather is making you feel a little festive already, then head to the Christmas special of Exeter’s Crikey It’s Vintage fair - there are plenty of vintage and retro goodies to make for one-of-a-kind presents, to fill your stockings with or to simply treat yourself. The fair also features a pop up beauty parlour complete with vintage hair stylists, makeup artists and nail art to practice your festive party looks.
Crikey Christmas is Coming: 18th November at The Thistle Hotel, Queen Street, Exeter, EX4 3SP
Manchester: ‘Something Old’ Vintage Wedding Fair – The wedding special
One of the greatest things about vintage fashion is that no one else will be rocking the same look as you - and there’s no time that’s more important than your wedding day. Full to the brim with beautiful vintage gowns, bridal wear, headpieces, crockery, floral arrangements and any wedding prop you can think of, the Something Old fair is your one-stop shop for a wedding like no other. There are even hair and makeup demonstrations to show you how to get yourself looking your vintage best.
‘Something Old’ Vintage Wedding Fair: 24th November at Whitworth Hall, Oxford Road, Manchester, M15 6ER
Norwich: Little Vintage Lover Fair – The small and bespoke
So much more than just a clever play on words, the Little Vintage Lover Fair also serves up a sweet selection of tea, cakes and live music. The guidelines for the featured clothing means that an item is only considered vintage if it’s more than thirty years old and, as a result, this fair specialises in the likes of the ‘70s all the way back to treasure from the early 20th century. The fair also struts its stuff a few times a year in the fashion capital of trendy Stockholm.
Little Vintage Lover Fair: 2nd December at Blakeney Village Hall, Langham Road, Blakeney, Norfolk NR25 7PG
Chessington: Jukebox and Retro Fair – The ‘50s Americana
Half the fun of vintage dressing is getting to imagine yourself in a lifestyle from another time. The Jukebox and Retro Fair does exactly that, selling not just clothes from the rock ‘n’ rollin’ ‘50s and ‘60s, but also a fabulous selection of jukeboxes, diner furniture, posters, records and all kinds of original Americana memorabilia. Practice your best diner dancing with the fair featuring live music and dance demonstrations.
Jukebox and Retro Fair: 3rd and 4th November at Chessington Community College, Garrison Lane, Surrey, KT9 2JS
