"Like poetry, fashion does not state anything. It merely suggests."

Questions & Answeres

VFC: Hi Pia! Can you introduce yourself?

Hiya! My name is Pia Jacqueline Chandra, 19 years old and I'm an Indonesian Chinese who lives in Singapore, studying in London.

VFC: How would you identify your own style?

Indescribable. I don't like to limit myself to a particular style, I love to experiment!

VFC: How would you identify your own style?

VFC: Why do you actually bother to dress so beautifully?

I think it is an innate thing for me, something which comes very naturally. It may also be due to the fact that I grew up seeing my mom chasing after my brother, sister and me in 4 inch heels!

VFC: How did you learn how to do it?

I have always been quite an observant kid. I surf the net, look at shop displays, magazines etc.

VFC: How and when did you discover vintage style clothing?

I discovered it around 3 years ago? I can't remember how I discovered it though.

VFC: How big is your wardrobe?

Not big enough, haha, but I'm thankful with what I have!

VFC: What is the favourite vintage style item in your wardrobe?

I try not to play favouritism in my clothes! Haha. I'm way too indecisive. To me, there is beauty in every vintage garment, there is a story behind each piece of clothing and jewellery. When I wear something from a different era, I feel special, knowing that it has been through so many decades; also it is exciting to know that the chances of someone else having the same piece is very low.

VFC: What gives you inspiration?

VFC: What’s your life rhythm?

Right now? Very hectic. My world revolves around school work and sleep has become a secondary thing for me.

VFC: How do you like to dress, I mean the process ?

I think this quote from Lori Goldstein really sums up my dressing process.

“Styling is my form of painting. I can understand the process behind it, the being afraid to start, and the diving into it. I’ve learned not to be afraid of doing something that might not be right. If you don’t try then you won’t know.”

I do get stuck on what to wear, I do wear the same things over and I do get it wrong sometimes. You can even see it in my blog. I have had so many "what-was-I thinking-wearing-that" moments in my life.. come to think of it, I'm glad I made those mistakes, cause now I know what doesn't work for me.

VFC: Do you advice your friends what to wear?

Some of them do look to me for advice and asks me to help style them for different occasions.

VFC: Do you have your favourite vintage style decade in fashion?

It's hard to pick a favourite, because every decade is a response of the previous decade. To me, each decade has it's own beauty.

VFC: Describe your philosophy about fashion, please.

Don't be afraid.

VFC: Your final word?
